  • Our read: EasyAlpha grades The Allstate Corporation B, placing it above most industry peers in the S&P 500 with debt load as its strongest scored area despite caution on volume behavior, even as the stock is graded B by EasyAlpha while 40.0% of 25 analyst ratings are buys.
  • The day: The stock fell 5.5% to close at $229.42 as financial shares dropped during a rotation into technology.
  • Watching: Third-quarter financial results scheduled for Wednesday, November 4.

The insurer fell 5.5% on Tuesday, marking its largest single-session drop over the past year. Trading activity jumped to 3.2x its 20-session average as selling accelerated across the session. The decline extended a six-session losing streak for the stock amid a broader pullback across financial services, where investors shifted capital away from financial shares and into technology. That rotation compounded existing headwinds for the insurer after a recent regulatory filing disclosed $748 million in catastrophe losses for August, bringing combined catastrophe losses across July and August to $1.43 billion.

Despite the sharp drop, EasyAlpha grades the company B, indicating good quality compared to its industry peers. In historical evaluations, companies graded A or B have demonstrated stronger fundamentals and carried a lower risk of large drawdowns than those in the D or E tiers. The company looks strongest on its debt load, while operational profitability remains healthy with return on equity of 46.1% and quarterly revenue growth of +11.8% year over year.

Valuation multiples also reflect that underlying financial base. The shares trade at a trailing price-to-earnings ratio of 5.0 and a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 9.0. The primary area of caution is volume behavior, driven by heavy trading during the recent pullback that has pushed the price 16.9% below its 52-week high. Wall Street consensus shows hesitation: only 40.0% of the 25 covering analysts rate the shares a buy.

  • AExcellent quality
  • BGood quality
  • CAverage quality
  • DBelow average
  • EWeakest quality
How grades work →

A grade measures quality against the other companies in a sector, from historical data. It is not a prediction, not a price target, and not advice. A company can be graded A and still fall.
