Our grade
52-week range
- Our read: Advanced Micro Devices Inc is graded D by EasyAlpha while 80.4% of 56 analyst ratings are buys, with solid growth undermined by an unsteady price trend relative to its industry peers in the S&P 500.
- The day: Shares fell 6.0% to $528.75 on Friday, October 16 as concerns over artificial intelligence infrastructure debt prompted broad selling across semiconductor stocks.
- Watching: Scheduled quarterly financial results on Tuesday, November 3.
The clear decline on Friday was part of an industrywide retreat. Chipmakers stumbled as investors questioned whether heavy spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure remains sustainable. That unease intensified after debt pressures at specialized cloud provider CoreWeave unsettled the broader semiconductor supply chain. With sharply higher borrowing costs at CoreWeave stoking worries over debt-financed artificial intelligence spending, investors grew cautious about how long heavily leveraged data-center investments can continue.
For AMD, the pullback brought its performance over the past week to -13.0%. The recent weakness interrupts what had been an exceptional advance: even after recent declines, the shares stand +146.9% so far this year. Yet the sudden reversal highlights the fragility of sentiment when market participants begin questioning the capital expenditures underpinning the sector.
AMD carried a D quality grade into Friday's session, placing it in the below-average tier among its industry peers. Historically, companies graded A or B have carried stronger fundamentals and a lower risk of large drawdowns than those graded D or E. While quarterly revenue growth reached +50.1% in the latest report, an elevated trailing price-to-earnings ratio of 134.9 remains a point of vulnerability.
That cautious grade stands in direct contrast to Wall Street sentiment. Most analysts remain optimistic, with an average price target of $627.65 that sits 18.7% above Friday's close. At Friday's close, the shares sat 19.7% below their 52-week high.

How grades work
Every day we grade each company against the other companies in its sector, looking at its finances, how its stock trades, and what the market is signaling. The result is one simple letter.
- AExcellent quality
- BGood quality
- CAverage quality
- DBelow average
- EWeakest quality
A grade measures quality against the other companies in a sector, from historical data. It is not a prediction, not a price target, and not advice. A company can be graded A and still fall.
