  • Our read: Applied Materials Inc holds a B grade against its industry peers, with strong growth measured against elevated valuation as the key watchpoint.
  • The day: The shares gained 5.2% to close at $512.01 as a memory research partnership and raised long-term projections supported sentiment.
  • Watching: The next quarterly earnings report scheduled for Thursday, November 12.

The shares closed +5.2% on Tuesday, September 29 at $512.01, extending a three-session advance. That solid performance came on a session when major stock indexes retreated under pressure from rising bond yields.

The buying followed company-specific developments. First, KIOXIA joined the EPIC Center as an innovation partner to collaborate on advanced memory structures, chip stacking, and materials engineering for artificial intelligence hardware. Second, investors responded favorably to revised financial projections that raised long-term revenue and earnings expectations on stronger expected tool demand. Although an analyst target was adjusted down to $563 from $642 to reflect lower valuation multiples across the sector, the raised operating estimates reassured buyers.

EasyAlpha grades Applied Materials Inc B against its industry peers. Across the market, companies graded A or B have demonstrated stronger fundamentals and have historically carried a lower risk of large drawdowns than companies graded D or E.

In its latest quarterly report, revenue growth reached +24.8% year over year, making growth the standout metric in the company's financial profile. The business also generated a profit margin of 30.0%, showing healthy conversion of semiconductor tool demand into bottom-line profits.

The primary counterweight is valuation. With the stock sitting at +99.2% so far this year, the shares trade at a trailing price-to-earnings ratio of 41.9 and a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 23.4. Even though the price sits 30.7% below its 52-week high, 82.1% of the 39 analysts covering the company still rate it a buy.

How grades work →

A grade measures quality against the other companies in a sector, from historical data. It is not a prediction, not a price target, and not advice. A company can be graded A and still fall.
