52-week range
- Our read: EasyAlpha grades Domino's a B against its industry peers, with efficiency as its strongest scored dimension and earnings quality as the primary watch item.
- The day: The shares fell 4.8% to $296.10 as sluggish same-store sales and a muted outlook overshadowed quarterly revenue and profit beats.
- Watching: Whether the stock holds above its 52-week low of $280.27, which sits 5.6% below Tuesday's close.
Domino's shares tumbled on Tuesday, shedding 4.8% to close at $296.10 on trading volume running at 2.5x the 20-session average. The decline marked the stock's seventh-largest daily drop of the past year and its sharpest retreat since Friday, August 28. The selloff came despite headline results that looked solid at first glance. Third-quarter diluted earnings per share reached $4.60, topping consensus estimates of $4.36, while revenue reached $1.186 billion with quarterly growth of +4.3%.
The pressure centered entirely on store-level momentum. Domestic same-store sales grew just 0.3% and international comparable sales rose 0.2%, missing analyst forecasts as cautious diners cut back on spending. Facing stiff promotional rivalry across the fast-food space, management steered annual comparable sales toward the low end of its prior guidance range. While the pizza chain added 175 net stores globally during the quarter, unit growth could not offset slowing demand at existing locations.
EasyAlpha entered Tuesday grading Domino's a B against its industry peers. Across historical data, companies graded A or B have demonstrated stronger fundamentals and carried a lower risk of severe drawdowns than those graded D or E. Within the company's file, efficiency is the strongest scored dimension, while earnings quality stands as the primary watch item.
The retreat deepens a challenging stretch for the company, leaving the shares -29.0% so far this year and sitting just 5.6% above their 52-week low of $280.27. Wall Street remains split on the outlook. While 50.0% of covering analysts maintain buy ratings, with an average target price of $373.15, the market is demanding clearer evidence of a demand recovery. For the stock to regain ground toward that target, Domino's will need to prove that customer traffic can stabilize without eroding profitability.

How grades work
Every day we grade each company against the other companies in its sector, looking at its finances, how its stock trades, and what the market is signaling. The result is one simple letter.
- AExcellent quality
- BGood quality
- CAverage quality
- DBelow average
- EWeakest quality
A grade measures quality against the other companies in a sector, from historical data. It is not a prediction, not a price target, and not advice. A company can be graded A and still fall.
