The Industrials sector gained +0.3% on Friday, August 21, with earnings from Deere serving as the group's main single-stock driver. Across the wider equity market, the Associated Press reported that stronger U.S. business activity helped support major stock indexes, although bond-market volatility remained an ongoing pressure during trading.

Deere paced the advance after releasing quarterly financial results and updating its outlook. As Investing.com reported, Deere exceeded earnings expectations and raised its profit forecast for the full year. Manufacturing Dive reported that Deere increased its 2026 sales guidance by $250 million, pointing to construction demand related to artificial intelligence data centers and infrastructure projects.

That report made Deere & Company (+4.3%) the sector's top gainer on the day, while Axon Enterprise Inc. (+2.2%) also finished higher. On the downside, Quanta Services Inc (-3.5%) posted the steepest decline among sector peers, trimming the group's net advance. Overall market breadth was positive across the sector, where 49 of 82 advanced during the session. The sector's cap-weighted return of +0.3% matched its equal-weighted return of +0.3%, indicating that gains were shared evenly between large and smaller companies rather than concentrated in a handful of heavyweight names.

For investors tracking the sector through the Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLI), an exchange-traded fund, the session translated to a +0.3% gain to close at $180.25. The daily move leaves the fund down -0.9% over the past month.

EasyAlpha grades each company against its industry peers. Companies graded A or B have stronger fundamentals, and historically they have carried a lower risk of large drawdowns than companies graded D or E. EasyAlpha grades 99.9% of the fund by weight. Top-tier companies graded A or B account for 29.3% of that graded pool. That leaves the majority of the fund in average or lower quality tiers, showing that holding the fund involves significant exposure to companies outside the top quality grades.
