  • Our read: EasyAlpha grades Intel Corporation C, indicating average quality relative to its industry peers in the S&P 500, where growth is the strongest dimension but profitability remains the central concern.
  • The day: The shares jumped 12.1% to close at $121.78 on Monday, September 21, driven by reignited CPU demand bets after Meta Platforms introduced its Muse artificial intelligence agent.
  • Watching: The next quarterly earnings report, scheduled for Thursday, October 22.

Semiconductor shares rallied sharply on Monday, September 21 as investors repriced the demand outlook for central processing units. The move was led by the reception of Meta Platforms' Muse artificial intelligence agent, which reignited market expectations for broad CPU demand.

Intel Corporation shares surged 12.1% to finish at $121.78, registering the stock's fifth-largest daily gain over the past year and its largest single-session advance since Friday, May 8. Trading volume reached 1.9x the 20-session average. The rally added to an extended run, with the stock +32.2% over the past month and +230.0% so far this year. At its latest close, the company carries a market capitalization of $574.1 billion, even as competitor AMD saw its valuation hit $1 trillion during the same session.

The central question is whether Intel's underlying business fundamentals support such an aggressive move. EasyAlpha grades Intel Corporation C, placing it in the middle tier of average quality relative to its technology peers in the S&P 500. Across historical data, companies graded A or B have stronger fundamentals and have carried a lower risk of large drawdowns than those graded D or E.

On the positive side, growth represents the strongest dimension in Intel's profile. The company generated latest quarterly revenue growth of +25.4%, demonstrating that top-line demand is regaining traction. However, profitability remains the primary area to monitor. A profit margin of 19.8% and a return on equity of 10.7% show that bottom-line efficiency continues to lag behind industry leaders.

The sharp rally has also expanded Intel's valuation to a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 56.5. Wall Street analysts remain cautious about the pace of the financial recovery. Of the 48 analysts covering the stock, only 29.2% maintain a buy rating, and the latest price stands 4.4% above the average analyst price target of $116.37. With a beta of 2.23, the shares remain sensitive to broader shifts in semiconductor sentiment. Investors will see whether rising CPU demand translates into better margins when Intel reports quarterly results on Thursday, October 22.

  • AExcellent quality
  • BGood quality
  • CAverage quality
  • DBelow average
  • EWeakest quality
How grades work →

A grade measures quality against the other companies in a sector, from historical data. It is not a prediction, not a price target, and not advice. A company can be graded A and still fall.
