Shares of LH posted a solid session on Thursday, October 15, ending the day +2.4% at $325.07. The move followed an agreement to acquire laboratory assets from OPKO Health subsidiary BioReference Health. Under the agreement, Labcorp will pay $722 million in cash at closing, alongside contingent milestone payments of up to $150 million based on revenue from the 4Kscore prostate cancer test. The purchase brings more than 80 patient service centers, regional laboratory facilities, and testing lines in clinical diagnostics, women's health, and urology into Labcorp's existing network.
EasyAlpha grades Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings C against its peers in the Healthcare sector. A C grade designates average quality, indicating a typical company for its industry where most stocks land. Across historical market cycles, companies graded A or B have demonstrated stronger fundamentals and carried a lower risk of large drawdowns than those graded D or E. Labcorp's position reflects that middle ground. In EasyAlpha's work, earnings quality is the company's strongest line, while volatility remains the main area to watch.
Underlying financial results show steady execution. Labcorp delivered +5.8% in year-over-year revenue growth in its latest quarterly report, supported by a profit margin of 7.0% and a return on equity of 11.7%. Still, market reaction to the asset purchase was relatively restrained, with trading volume reaching 0.7x of the 20-session average. The stock stands +29.6% so far this year and sits 4.7% beneath its 52-week high of $341.06.
Wall Street analysts maintain an optimistic outlook, with 72.2% of the 18 tracked analysts recommending a buy. Their consensus price target of $345.12 implies 6.2% upside from Thursday's close. At current levels, the shares trade at 26.3 times trailing earnings and 16.2 times forward projections. While acquiring regional laboratories expands testing access, the near-term test arrives on Wednesday, October 28, when third-quarter earnings results will reveal whether organic demand and cost management support that multiple.

How grades work
Every day we grade each company against the other companies in its sector, looking at its finances, how its stock trades, and what the market is signaling. The result is one simple letter.
- AExcellent quality
- BGood quality
- CAverage quality
- DBelow average
- EWeakest quality
A grade measures quality against the other companies in a sector, from historical data. It is not a prediction, not a price target, and not advice. A company can be graded A and still fall.
