  • Our read: EasyAlpha grades Lam Research Corp C, upgraded from E, reflecting average quality among its S&P 500 industry peers as strong growth balances elevated valuation.

  • Watching: Scheduled quarterly earnings on Wednesday, October 28.

On Thursday, September 17, Lam Research Corp shares were little changed, closing 0.0% at $269.31. Trading volume reached 1.4x its 20-session average as investors evaluated major capital expansion plans. At the SEMICON India industry conference, the company announced plans to invest approximately 10,000 crore rupees to build its first silicon component manufacturing facility in India. The planned facility will establish a vertically integrated operation spanning silicon ingot production and processing, serving as an export and manufacturing base for global semiconductor supply chains.

The long-term factory commitment did not lift the stock out of its recent consolidation. The shares are -17.9% over the past month. Even after that retreat, the stock remains +57.3% so far this year, though it currently trades 38.6% below its 52-week high.

Underlying business performance continues to show solid operational expansion. In its latest quarterly report, revenue expanded +30.0% year over year. The company converted that top-line growth into strong profitability, generating a return on equity of 65.1%. At the same time, valuation represents the primary constraint for the stock. With shares trading at a trailing price-to-earnings ratio of 47.0, the current valuation leaves little room for operational disruption.

Wall Street analysts maintain an upbeat consensus, with 82.9% of the 35 covering analysts rating the stock as a buy. Their average price target of $373.13 sits 38.6% above Thursday's close. EasyAlpha grades the company C, upgraded from E in the latest run. That places Lam Research Corp in the average quality tier among its S&P 500 industry peers, where high-tier growth is tempered by high valuation. Across the market, companies graded A or B have stronger fundamentals, and historically they have carried a lower risk of large drawdowns than companies graded D or E.

How grades work →

A grade measures quality against the other companies in a sector, from historical data. It is not a prediction, not a price target, and not advice. A company can be graded A and still fall.
