Shares of Legence Corp. Class A Common stock (LGN) fell -5.0% to close at $56.38 on Monday, August 24, marking five consecutive sessions of declines. The drop extends a recent selloff that has reduced the stock by -20.4% over the past month, leaving it 47.4% beneath its 52-week peak.

The selling pressure stems from continued fallout over quarterly results reported earlier this month. In its latest earnings release, Legence reported an adjusted quarterly loss of 37 cents per share alongside a gross margin drop to 17.4% from 21.5% a year earlier. In a note summarized by TipRanks, BTIG reduced its price target from $120 to $100 after investor concerns mounted over margin compression in installation services. A softer market backdrop added headwinds, as Reuters reported cautious trading across major exchanges amid inflation watch and geopolitical developments.

EasyAlpha downgraded the stock by two notches, from C to E, comparing it against other Industrials companies in the EA1000 universe. In historical evaluations, companies in the A or B tiers show stronger fundamental profiles and carry a lower risk of large drawdowns than those landing in D or E.

The company presents a sharp contrast between expansion and profitability. Its top scored dimension is growth, propelled by quarterly revenue growth of +110.7% compared to the same period last year. Yet that top-line surge has not translated into strong bottom-line results: profit margin stands at 1.2%, while the stock trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 47.2. The scored dimension at the weak end of its profile is price trend.

Wall Street analysts remain broadly constructive on the stock despite recent declines. Of the 17 analysts tracking the company, 94.1% rate the stock a buy, with an average price target of $102.53 implying +81.9% upside. The divide between Wall Street targets and EasyAlpha's E grade centers on whether rapid top-line growth can overcome thin margins and a demanding valuation.

How grades work →

A grade measures quality against the other companies in a sector, from historical data. It is not a prediction, not a price target, and not advice. A company can be graded A and still fall.
