On Monday, October 26, crude oil moved lower as energy markets reacted to shifts in geopolitical risk. Brent crude retreated as hopes of easing hostilities between the United States and Iran cooled immediate supply concerns. Market participants monitored regional diplomatic developments closely, with lower crude prices establishing the primary directional move among major physical commodities during the trading day.

Following recent losses, bullion rebounded above $4,000 an ounce on Monday. The pullback in oil prices helped ease inflation concerns, while positioning ahead of the upcoming Federal Reserve policy meeting encouraged buyers to step back into the market. That recovery reflected an easing in broader price pressures alongside steady investor demand before major central bank announcements.

In foreign exchange, major currency pairs traded within subdued ranges throughout Monday. The dollar weakened modestly against several major currencies as declining Treasury yields and softer oil prices compressed the U.S. yield advantage early in the session. Meanwhile, the euro strengthened against the dollar during the session, helping European currency trading hold firm ahead of upcoming monetary decisions.

In subsequent round-the-clock trading following Monday's close, prices across metals and foreign exchange shifted further. By 10:30 am New York, market quotes showed silver -1.4%, alongside the euro against the dollar -0.6%. In cryptocurrency markets, trading remained subdued, with Bitcoin +0.1% and Ethereum +0.1% across the session.

Looking ahead, the calendar features several major policy decisions and economic releases. The Federal Reserve begins its two-day interest rate meeting on Tuesday, while the European Central Bank holds its monetary policy gathering on Wednesday and Thursday. In the United States, scheduled data includes September durable goods and new-home sales on Tuesday, followed on Thursday by the third-quarter advance gross domestic product estimate and personal consumption expenditures price index.

How grades work

Every day we grade each company against the other companies in its sector, looking at its finances, how its stock trades, and what the market is signaling. The result is one simple letter.

  • AExcellent quality
  • BGood quality
  • CAverage quality
  • DBelow average
  • EWeakest quality
How grades work →

A grade measures quality against the other companies in a sector, from historical data. It is not a prediction, not a price target, and not advice. A company can be graded A and still fall.
