  • Our read: EasyAlpha grades Oracle Corporation B, up from D, reflecting good quality that scores better than most industry peers, with valuation as its strongest scored dimension and debt load as its main watch item.
  • The day: Shares gained +5.7% to $154.04 as rate concerns eased and Hewlett Packard Enterprise expanded an AI networking deal.
  • Watching: The company is scheduled to report quarterly financial results on Tuesday, September 8.

Oracle logged a solid gain on Thursday, September 3, advancing +5.7% to close at $154.04 on volume of 1.1x its 20-session average. The advance followed comments from Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller indicating he is open to keeping interest rates steady if inflation moderates. For Oracle, rate policy carries outsized importance because the company holds a substantial debt load to fund its artificial intelligence data center expansion.

Company-specific catalysts reinforced the move. Hewlett Packard Enterprise announced an expanded networking infrastructure agreement to deploy Juniper routers and switches across Oracle cloud data centers globally. Under the terms, HPE also provided Oracle with warrants to purchase company shares linked to equipment purchases. In addition, Bernstein analyst Mark Moerdler suggested that Oracle is nearing the end of its additional cash needs for cloud infrastructure.

EasyAlpha grades Oracle B, improved from its previous D score, reflecting good quality relative to its industry peers. Companies graded A or B have stronger fundamentals, and historically they have carried a lower risk of large drawdowns than companies graded D or E. Operations remain profitable, generating a profit margin of 25.4% and year-over-year revenue growth of +20.6%.

The central tension in Oracle's profile lies between its supportive valuation and its elevated obligations. The stock trades at a trailing price-to-earnings ratio of 24.2 and a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 17.5, sitting 54.9% below its 52-week high of $341.82. Shares remain down -21.0% so far this year despite recent gains. Wall Street remains constructive, with 81.8% of analysts rating the stock a buy, though its market beta of 1.72 highlights ongoing sensitivity to macroeconomic swings.

How grades work →

A grade measures quality against the other companies in a sector, from historical data. It is not a prediction, not a price target, and not advice. A company can be graded A and still fall.
