Precious metals saw the largest moves among benchmark assets, remaining quiet through the regular session on Wednesday, October 21 before pulling back in overnight trading. During regular trading hours, precious metals settled with minimal change. In round-the-clock trading after the close, prices shifted: gold -1.1% as of 10:25 am New York. Silver saw a wider pullback overnight, leaving silver -1.7%. Our sources show no reported driver for the overnight declines in either metal.
Energy benchmarks were similarly subdued. Crude oil settled little changed, as concerns over potential Middle East supply disruptions supported prices.
Major currencies were also tightly range-bound. On Wednesday, October 21, currency trading was almost motionless: the pound +0.1% against the dollar, while the euro 0.0% against the dollar and the yen 0.0% against the dollar. For currency pairs against the dollar, a positive percentage means the currency strengthened, while a negative percentage means it weakened. The British pound was the only major currency to strengthen slightly during the session, while the euro and the yen held completely flat as the dollar traded steady, with our sources showing no reported driver for the session.
Cryptocurrency trading was similarly quiet on the session: Bitcoin +0.1% and Ethereum +0.2%.
For the remainder of the week and into next, attention turns to scheduled economic data and central bank decisions. Economic data releases resume Thursday morning with weekly initial jobless claims. The following week brings the Federal Reserve policy meeting on October 27 and 28, along with interest rate announcements from the European Central Bank. Those events will offer fresh evidence on inflation and the path of borrowing costs, providing the next scheduled cues for commodity and currency markets.

How grades work
Every day we grade each company against the other companies in its sector, looking at its finances, how its stock trades, and what the market is signaling. The result is one simple letter.
- AExcellent quality
- BGood quality
- CAverage quality
- DBelow average
- EWeakest quality
A grade measures quality against the other companies in a sector, from historical data. It is not a prediction, not a price target, and not advice. A company can be graded A and still fall.
