On Tuesday, October 6, breadth was exceptionally strong across Real Estate, with 96.4% of its member stocks advancing as the cap-weighted sector finished +1.2%. The Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLRE), an exchange-traded fund tracking the sector, closed +1.1% at $41.12. Gains were led by SBA Communications Corp finishing +4.9% and Iron Mountain Incorporated ending +3.7%, while 27.0% of the fund's graded assets sit in companies graded A or B. The broad advance unfolded as the 10-year Treasury yield fell three basis points to 5.28%.
Yield Relief and Sector Breadth
Broader equity markets also moved higher on Tuesday, October 6, where 10 of the 11 sectors rose, with stocks broadly receiving support as bond yields eased. Commercial property activity continued alongside the broader market move, including CTO Realty Growth acquiring a Kansas City power center for $103 million. In healthcare real estate, Diversified Healthcare Trust announced a 15-year net lease with The Ensign Group for a seven-facility skilled nursing portfolio in Colorado. Across the sector, CoStar Group Inc was the primary laggard, closing -0.1%.
Weighting and Fund Profile
The cap-weighted sector return of +1.2% slightly exceeded the equal-weighted return of +1.0%, showing that the sector's largest constituents contributed slightly more to the day's gain than smaller peers. Even with Tuesday's advance, the fund continues to navigate an extended pullback, sitting at -6.4% over the past month and -6.4% over the past 100 sessions, while remaining at -1.3% over the past twelve months. That prolonged drag leaves XLRE still working off earlier declines, with portfolio quality remaining concentrated as higher-tier names represent only a limited share of the overall vehicle.

How grades work
Every day we grade each company against the other companies in its sector, looking at its finances, how its stock trades, and what the market is signaling. The result is one simple letter.
- AExcellent quality
- BGood quality
- CAverage quality
- DBelow average
- EWeakest quality
A grade measures quality against the other companies in a sector, from historical data. It is not a prediction, not a price target, and not advice. A company can be graded A and still fall.
