  • Our read: Reddit, Inc. carried a C grade into the session, representing average quality relative to its industry peers.
  • The day: The shares fell 29.2% to close at $91.73 after management warned that declining search referrals could trigger a drop in daily active users.
  • Watching: The price trend remains the immediate concern, with the stock now on an extended slide that leaves it 65.2% below its 52-week high.

On Friday, Reddit shares suffered their largest single-day decline of the past year on trading volume that reached 6.7x the 20-session average. The plunge came immediately after the company posted third-quarter financial results. Although Reddit reported revenue of $895 million and net income of $283 million, trading focused instead on forward user growth.

The deeper concern for investors centered on guidance and external search disruption. Management forecast fourth-quarter revenue between $1.00 billion and $1.03 billion while warning that total daily active users could decline by a low-double-digit percentage if search traffic fails to recover. Automated summaries from search engines have redirected traffic away from community threads, as falling search referrals squeeze site traffic. While the company is attempting to counter this pressure by shifting its platform toward a logged-in user experience, the prospect of near-term audience shrinkage prompted an abrupt exit.

Reddit, Inc. carried a C grade into Friday's trading based on an evaluation against its industry peers. Across our historical research, companies graded A or B have demonstrated stronger fundamentals and carried a lower risk of large drawdowns than companies graded D or E. Reddit brought genuine operational momentum into Friday's session, including quarterly revenue growth of +61.1% and a profit margin of 31.4%.

That operational efficiency, however, is challenged by a deteriorating price trend. Friday's tumble extended an eight-session slide, leaving the shares 65.2% below their 52-week high of $263.50. The sharp selloff also compressed Reddit's valuation, leaving the stock trading at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 20.8.

The session also widened the gap between the trading action and Wall Street expectations. Among 34 analysts covering the stock, 64.7% rate it a buy, with an average price target of $212.95. Reaching that mark would require an advance of 132.1% from Friday's close. That bullish consensus stands in contrast to the session's selloff. Until user numbers show resilience, Reddit's strong financial profile remains locked against a deteriorating price trend.

How grades work

Every day we grade each company against the other companies in its sector, looking at its finances, how its stock trades, and what the market is signaling. The result is one simple letter.

  • AExcellent quality
  • BGood quality
  • CAverage quality
  • DBelow average
  • EWeakest quality
How grades work →

A grade measures quality against the other companies in a sector, from historical data. It is not a prediction, not a price target, and not advice. A company can be graded A and still fall.
