EasyAlpha grades the stocks across the sector, where 66.5% of the fund's graded weight sits in companies with an A or B quality grade. Breadth was narrow across the group on Monday, September 28, with only 27.0% of the sector's S&P 500 members advancing. The exchange-traded Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) closed -0.9% as heavy semiconductor selling outweighed gains across enterprise software and cybersecurity. The day's sharpest drag came from Qualcomm Incorporated, which finished -7.2% as investors took profits following recent events while assessing semiconductor manufacturing delays and rising foundry costs.
Cybersecurity providers moved in the opposite direction, providing some counterweight to hardware weakness as enterprise attention turned toward securing automated artificial intelligence operations. Palo Alto Networks Inc finished +4.6% as an industry safety platform initiative highlighted enterprise demand for defense tools. Peer security firm Crowdstrike Holdings Inc also gained, closing +2.8%. Across the broader S&P 500, the Information Technology sector logged a -0.8% cap-weighted move, while an equal-weighted view of the same companies showed a -1.3% move. The difference shows that larger market-cap members held up relatively better than the average constituent, cushioning cap-weighted portfolios against steeper losses.
On the session, 3 of the 11 sectors rose, reflecting broader market dispersion across the wider market. Over longer horizons, the fund has moved +3.1% over the past month, +14.4% over the past 100 sessions, and +52.6% over the past six months, though it remains -30.2% over the past twelve months. That extended recovery highlights how enterprise infrastructure spending has supported the broader sector through multi-quarter cycles, even when single-session pullbacks in key hardware components compress daily returns.

How grades work
Every day we grade each company against the other companies in its sector, looking at its finances, how its stock trades, and what the market is signaling. The result is one simple letter.
- AExcellent quality
- BGood quality
- CAverage quality
- DBelow average
- EWeakest quality
A grade measures quality against the other companies in a sector, from historical data. It is not a prediction, not a price target, and not advice. A company can be graded A and still fall.
