- Our read: EasyAlpha grades Synopsys Inc C, indicating average quality among technology peers in the S&P 500, where strong growth is offset by lagging profitability.
- The day: The shares rose 5.6% to close at $454.33 after an upgraded credit rating pointed to faster cost synergies from the Ansys acquisition and accelerating artificial intelligence demand.
- Watching: The company is scheduled to report its next quarterly financial results on Wednesday, December 9.
Shares of the chip-design software maker rallied on Monday, October 26 after a credit rating upgrade raised the company to BBB+ from BBB with a stable outlook. Credit analysts highlighted faster progress on absorbing engineering simulation firm Ansys, noting that $400 million in projected annual cost synergies are now expected to arrive by fiscal 2027, a full year ahead of original guidance. The review also lifted long-term financial expectations, forecasting annual revenue growth in the mid-teens through 2029 compared to an earlier projection of roughly 10%.
Commercial momentum has also expanded beyond traditional software licensing, led by application-optimized intellectual property pacts including an agreement with Amazon valued at more than $1 billion to support custom cloud processors. Analysts also highlighted that the business is well insulated from generative disruption due to the deterministic, physics-based requirements of chip engineering. The advance allowed the shares to outperform competitors and the broader market on Monday.
EasyAlpha grades each company against its industry peers. In EasyAlpha's historical research, companies graded A or B have stronger fundamentals and have carried a lower risk of large drawdowns than companies graded D or E. A grade of C indicates average quality, describing a typical company within its sector where most stocks land. The grade is a relative and historical finding about quality tiers, never a forecast for any individual stock.
That middle-tier grade reflects a sharp divide between business expansion and profitability. Revenue growth remains the company's clear engine, with latest quarterly revenue at +42.4% year over year. At the same time, profit margin currently sits at 11.4%, while return on equity is 3.7%.
Valuation levels also show that investors are paying heavily for future execution. The stock trades at 23.3 times forward earnings. Wall Street analysts remain broadly optimistic about the business, with 92.0% of the 25 analysts covering the stock rating it as a buy. Their average price target of $586.95 sits well above Monday's close.
Even with Monday's sharp rally, the broader trading record reflects a more measured picture. The stock is +6.7% over the past month, but it remains -3.3% year to date and trades 15.8% below its 52-week high of $539.48. The credit upgrade validates faster merger synergies and expanding long-term demand, but until profitability catches up to revenue growth, the company's quality profile remains average.

How grades work
Every day we grade each company against the other companies in its sector, looking at its finances, how its stock trades, and what the market is signaling. The result is one simple letter.
- AExcellent quality
- BGood quality
- CAverage quality
- DBelow average
- EWeakest quality
A grade measures quality against the other companies in a sector, from historical data. It is not a prediction, not a price target, and not advice. A company can be graded A and still fall.
