Shares of Synopsys Inc surged on Thursday, October 1, as the stock gained 12.8% to finish at $490.54. Trading volume reached 3.3x the 20-session average. The single-day advance was the second-largest for the stock over the past year and its largest daily move since Thursday, August 27. The sharp rally followed a series of major commercial announcements unveiled at the company's investor day.
The primary catalyst was a commercial agreement with Amazon Web Services worth over $1 billion, establishing Amazon as the headline customer for its custom silicon design portfolio. Under the arrangement, Amazon will use the software to design custom chips including its Graviton, Trainium, and Nitro processors, using a license-and-royalty structure where revenue scales with production volumes. Alongside the cloud deal, the company announced a strategic partnership with OpenAI to build GPT-Synopsys, a specialized artificial intelligence model designed to automate complex chip design workflows.
Management supported those commercial agreements with upgraded financial targets. Synopsys raised its fiscal 2027 revenue guidance to approximately $11.15 billion, representing about 15% annual growth and topping previous consensus estimates. The company also outlined plans to repurchase approximately $1 billion in shares and set a long-term goal of reaching a non-GAAP operating margin of about 50% by fiscal 2030.
Synopsys entered Thursday's session graded C by EasyAlpha, indicating an average quality profile relative to its industry peers. In EasyAlpha's historical research, companies graded A or B have demonstrated stronger fundamentals and carried a lower risk of large drawdowns than companies graded D or E, while C-graded stocks land in the middle tier. For this business, the strongest area is growth, supported by recent quarterly revenue growth of +42.4%. However, the central vulnerability remains profitability. Trailing profit margin stands at 11.4% and return on equity sits at 3.7%.
The day's rally adds to recent momentum, lifting the stock +18.3% over the past month. Valuation reflects substantial growth expectations, with the shares trading at 75.9 times trailing earnings and 23.3 times forward earnings. Wall Street remains broadly optimistic, with 92.0% of the 25 analysts covering the stock rating it a buy, with an average price target of $553.77.

How grades work
Every day we grade each company against the other companies in its sector, looking at its finances, how its stock trades, and what the market is signaling. The result is one simple letter.
- AExcellent quality
- BGood quality
- CAverage quality
- DBelow average
- EWeakest quality
A grade measures quality against the other companies in a sector, from historical data. It is not a prediction, not a price target, and not advice. A company can be graded A and still fall.
