  • Our read: EasyAlpha grades TC Energy Corp B, indicating good quality relative to Energy peers among the top 1,000 U.S. companies, with earnings quality as its highest scored dimension and liquidity as the primary watch item.
  • The day: Shares closed +1.6% at $61.55, marking a solid session as the company finalized an Indigenous equity agreement for its Coastal GasLink pipeline.
  • Watching: Third-quarter financial results are scheduled for release on Thursday, November 5.

On Tuesday, October 13, the stock posted a solid advance to extend its winning streak to four consecutive sessions. Trading interest followed the announcement that five British Columbia First Nations completed an agreement to take an indirect economic stake in the Coastal GasLink pipeline. Under the transaction, an Indigenous-led entity acquired the interest in the pipeline partnership, though the company did not disclose financial terms for the agreement.

The transaction executes on option agreements established in 2022 that offered corridor communities equity participation. TC Energy chief executive François Poirier stated that the completed agreement turns years of partnership into "long-term economic opportunity and shared prosperity". Company plans call for another group of First Nations to complete a similar investment in the fourth quarter. Market analysts noted that while the initial financial impact on corporate earnings is minor, cementing regional partnerships provides valuable backing as the company evaluates proposals to expand capacity along the 670 kilometer route serving the LNG Canada terminal.

That performance reflects the foundation TC Energy Corp carried into the session. EasyAlpha grades the company B, pointing to quality that outpaces most industry peers. In EasyAlpha's historical studies, companies graded A or B have delivered stronger fundamentals and carried lower drawdown risk than those graded D or E. The company's highest scored dimension is earnings quality, while the business generates a profit margin of 22.9% and a dividend yield of 5.8%.

Wall Street sentiment is broadly aligned with that operational track record. Across 24 analysts covering the stock, 70.8% issue buy ratings, with an average target of $66.58 that sits 8.2% above Tuesday's close. Even so, the numbers highlight clear limits. The primary watch item remains liquidity, given the capital demands of pipeline infrastructure. Valuation also leaves less cushion, with the stock trading at 21.2 times forward earnings.

With the shares up considerably from their 52-week low, further gains will depend on cash flow keeping pace with capital obligations. The next scheduled checkpoint arrives on Thursday, November 5, when the company reports third-quarter financial results.

  • CAverage quality
  • DBelow average
  • EWeakest quality
How grades work →

A grade measures quality against the other companies in a sector, from historical data. It is not a prediction, not a price target, and not advice. A company can be graded A and still fall.
