The Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK), an exchange-traded fund tracking the Information Technology sector, finished +1.3% on Friday, September 11 with broad internal participation. Across the sector, 82.4% of member stocks advanced, while the equal-weighted sector move of +2.5% outpaced the cap-weighted sector return of +1.2%. That divergence shows that mid-sized hardware and equipment suppliers did heavier lifting than the sector's mega-cap technology leaders. The session's primary drivers were server providers Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co (+12.4%) and Dell Technologies Inc (+11.9%), which surged after corporate capital expenditure forecasts for artificial intelligence infrastructure came in well above expectations.
The catalyst centered on expanding infrastructure budgets across enterprise cloud and data center networks. Oracle announced a significant capital spending plan for AI infrastructure, lifting demand expectations across computing hardware vendors. That spending guidance repriced growth assumptions across the hardware supply chain, providing fresh momentum to server makers that deliver enterprise-scale computing systems.
The buying extended beyond compute systems and into communications hardware. Ciena reversed a post-earnings selloff while Arista Networks and Cisco advanced as investors rotated into networking equipment, lifting the broader networking group. The advance was not entirely uniform across hardware, however, as data storage provider Seagate Technology PLC (-3.7%) moved against the group and finished as the sector's primary laggard.
The sector's advance occurred against an active market session in which 9 of the 11 sectors rose. The session's gain brought XLK to a close of $187.70, reinforcing a multi-month rebound where the fund stands +37.2% over the past six months even while it remains -0.6% over the past month.

Every company in it, graded, with where the quality actually sits.
How grades work
Every day we grade each company against the other companies in its sector, looking at its finances, how its stock trades, and what the market is signaling. The result is one simple letter.
- AExcellent quality
- BGood quality
- CAverage quality
- DBelow average
- EWeakest quality
A grade measures quality against the other companies in a sector, from historical data. It is not a prediction, not a price target, and not advice. A company can be graded A and still fall.
