  • Our read: EasyAlpha grades the company D among industrial peers in the top 1,000 U.S. companies, down from B, where a sturdy debt load is offset by a deteriorating price trend.
  • The day: The shares dropped 11.5% to $43.50 on Wednesday, October 28 as cautious revenue guidance for the fourth quarter outweighed a third-quarter earnings beat.
  • Watching: The 52-week low of $42.86, located just below Wednesday's closing price.

On Wednesday, Zurn Elkay Water Solutions Corporation suffered its largest daily decline of the past year, as trading volume surged to 2.7x the 20-session average. The sharp retreat followed the release of quarterly results that pleased on recent profits but alarmed investors on future revenue growth.

Third-quarter revenue rose +10.5% year over year, with net sales reaching $495.1 million. Adjusted earnings beat analyst expectations by two cents per share. However, enthusiasm evaporated when management projected fourth-quarter revenue of $430 million to $437 million, falling short of the $436.9 million consensus. During the earnings call, executives indicated that macroeconomic conditions and key end markets were unlikely to provide a tailwind in 2027.

EasyAlpha entered the session grading the company D within the Industrials sector, down from its earlier mark. Across historical data, companies graded A or B have shown stronger fundamentals and a lower risk of severe drawdowns compared to those graded D or E. That relative quality finding does not predict short-term price moves, and a higher grade does not prevent an individual company from falling.

The session's drop brought the stock's move over the past week to -10.1% and over the past month to -7.0%. At $43.50, the shares hover 1.5% above their 52-week low of $42.86.

Wall Street analysts had maintained a measured stance heading into the release. Only 40.0% of the ten analysts covering the stock maintain buy recommendations. Their average price target of $56.89 stands 30.8% above Wednesday's close, underscoring a wide disconnect between earlier analyst models and the slower growth environment management described.

How grades work →

A grade measures quality against the other companies in a sector, from historical data. It is not a prediction, not a price target, and not advice. A company can be graded A and still fall.
